Candidate Biography
(The Reader's Digest version...)
Born in Albury, where my father managed a family business, I moved to Canberra almost 40 years ago to study at the ANU, graduating BSc (Hons), PhD in chemistry. While studying I held a number of casual teaching positions at the ANU, CCAE (UC) and Duntroon (ADFA). For pragmatic reasons my career path thereafter followed a secondary interest in computer science. I worked as a computer systems analyst and network architect before retiring from my last job as Asia Pacific Director of the Internet Infrastructure business group within the Nortel Networks Global Professional Services organisation.
A Wamboin resident now for 17 years, I have more recently been directing my efforts towards youth leadership within my local Scout Group, and my responsibilities as president of the Wamboin Community Association. I have been actively involved in the development of community facilities and services, and in the representation of community needs to Council.
I met my wife Barb at university and we have a teenage son, Steve, whom we home schooled together until he was 16. Steve then attended (conventional) school in Canberra, and is now studying at the ANU.
